Everything Auction does

Real auctions for real things, in naira. Every bidder is verified, the highest maximum wins, and the winner pays only through NaijaMart Trust, so the seller is paid only after the buyer has the item.

Bidding

Set the most you will pay once. NaijaMart bids for you, one step at a time, only as far as it needs to.

  • Maximum bid

Enter the most you would pay. You pay one bid step above the next-highest maximum, never your full maximum unless someone pushes you there.

    Bidders
  • Early bidders win ties

If two people enter the same maximum, the one who entered it first leads.

    Bidders
  • Secret maximums

Nobody sees your maximum. Everyone sees the price, the number of bids and a masked bid history.

    Everyone
  • No last-second snatching

A bid in the last 2 minutes moves the end to 2 minutes after that bid, so everyone gets a fair answer.

    Bidders
  • Buy Now

Some lots carry a Buy Now price. Take it before the bidding passes it and the item is yours at that price.

    Bidders
  • A check before a big bid

A bid over ₦100,000 asks you to confirm it first, so a slip of the thumb does not cost you.

    Bidders
  • A ceiling on what you can owe

What you can be winning at one time is capped at ₦10,000,000, or lower if your verification level has a lower Trust limit, so every bid is one you can pay for.

    Bidders
  • Ask to void a mistaken bid

Within 60 minutes of a bid you can ask NaijaMart to void it, from the lot page. Until NaijaMart replies, the bid stands.

    Bidders

Real bidders, real items

Auctions only work when every bid is real. These checks run on every lot.

  • Verified bidders only

You verify your identity before your first bid, so a bid is never from a ghost account.

    Bidders
  • No seller bidding

A seller cannot bid on their own lot, and neither can any account sharing their phone number, bank account or verified identity.

    Everyone
  • Shill bidding watch

Someone who bids on 3 or more of one seller's lots within 30 days and wins none is flagged for a person at NaijaMart to look at. Bids NaijaMart voided still count.

    Everyone
  • Report a lot

If a lot looks fake, stolen or banned, report it from the lot page. When 3 different verified members report a lot within 30 days, it is paused at once while NaijaMart checks it.

    Everyone
  • Strikes for not paying

A winner who does not pay gets a strike. 3 strikes in 90 days pause bidding on the account. Your Auction account page lists any strikes.

    Bidders
  • Help me write

When you report a lot or ask for a bid to be voided, say what happened in a few words, in any language, and get a clear note to send. You always see it and can change it first.

Paying and getting paid

The winner pays through NaijaMart Trust. The money is held until the buyer has the item.

  • Pay through Trust only

The winner pays within 48 hours, only through NaijaMart Trust. Never pay a seller directly.

    Bidders
  • Money held until you have it

The seller is paid after you confirm you have the item. If it is not as described, do not confirm: your money stays in Trust while NaijaMart looks at the case.

    Bidders
  • No buyer's premium

The winning bid is what you pay. Delivery, if the seller offers it, is agreed and shown before you pay.

    Bidders
  • Second chance

If the winner does not pay, the seller can offer the item to the next-highest bidder, at that bidder's own last bid.

    Bidders and sellers
  • A fee only when it sells

Listing is free. When the item sells and is paid for, a success fee of 3%, at most ₦30,000, comes off what the seller receives.

    Sellers

Selling

List something real, set your terms, and let verified bidders set the price.

  • Your terms

Set a starting bid of at least ₦1,000, an optional secret reserve and an optional Buy Now, and pick a length: 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14 days.

    Sellers
  • Photos that show it

Every lot has at least 4 photos, so bidders see what they are bidding on.

    Sellers
  • Lower the reserve as you go

You can lower or remove a reserve during the auction, never raise it. Bidders see "Reserve not met" until the bidding reaches it.

    Sellers
  • Cars with their Motors check

A Motors Verified car put up for auction shows its Motors check on the lot page, with the full report one tap away, so bidders can book a viewing or send a mechanic before they bid.

    Bidders and sellers
  • Your selling page

Every lot you list, its bids, its sale and its payment, on one page.

    Sellers

  • Ending soon

A reminder in the last 60 minutes of a lot you are bidding on, or watching with alerts on.

    Bidders
  • Watchlist

Keep lots you are thinking about in one place, with their price and time left.

    Bidders
  • Saved searches

Save a search and hear when a matching lot is listed, at most 5 alerts a day.

    Bidders
  • Texts when it matters

A text message when you win and when your payment is due, as well as the alert in the app.
